This time the disaster hit outside the United States, but we're ready to help. We can help Americans share their messages of comfort and hope to our Haitian neighbors.

The National Disaster Recovery Fund, managed by Volunteer USA Foundation, is overseeing a project that will touch the hearts of Haitians in need of comfort.

We are asking Americans, adults and children alike, to send us your handmade cards, letters and colorful drawings to show your love and support for the people of Haiti as they begin the long journey of recovery.We'll make sure we get your thoughtful messages to the people of Haiti through outreach at hospitals, shelters, children and family organizations, schools and non-profit groups.

We're gathering messages and cards to send Haitian families who are in need of comfort and hope. Please be sure to provide your name and contact information with your card/message.

Please send your messages of hope to:

In addition, the National Disaster Recovery Fund provides a coordinated strategy to make sure disaster funds raised for long-term recovery efforts go where they are needed most. We commit to care for families during the months, and even years, that it may take to rebuild and reclaim their lives. Join us in our partnership. Together, we will approach disasters in a way that doesn't just offer a quick-fix bandage, but aims for a full recovery.

We know that the effects of every natural disaster are different, and that recovery takes years. We're different: we fund United States based faith and community-based groups to rebuild after disaster. We use volunteer labor to stretch resources, and use donated funds to purchase materials and, when necessary, pay for travel expenses. Our work often includes:

  • The need to quickly rebuild non-profit buildings, such as childcare centers, so employees can get back to work;
  • Funding to purchase items such as roofing materials to repair or rebuild severely damaged homes;
  • And, the simple but necessary items, such as repairing nets for the fishermen who need them.
